Administration of tobramycin via a nebuliser

If there are robust clinical reasons to administer tobramycin injection via a nebuliser instead of using the licensed nebuliser solution then it is critical that a phenol-free formulation of the injection is used. Currently there are two formulations of tobramycin injection available in the UK – one from Pfizer/ Hospira which is phenol-free and one from Flynn which contains phenol as an excipient.  This document outlines the risks associated with using the injection instead of the nebuliser solution for this indication.
