Pharmacy Quality Scheme
One of the main aims of the Pharmacy Quality Scheme (PQS) is to help reduce harm from medication. As part of the PQS, pharmacy teams are asked to complete the updated audit of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and gastro-protection. The audit tool for 2019-20 is given below.
Adverse effects of NSAIDs, including cyclo-oxygenase-2 selective inhibitors, are a frequent cause of hospital admissions and there is evidence that potential harm from taking NSAIDs can be reduced. The aim of this audit is to prevent patient harm by ensuring all older patients prescribed NSAIDs are co-prescribed a gastro-protective agent.

Note – Minor updates to the list of NSAIDs in the audit tool published in Oct 2019 have been made. Please ensure you are using the current version. (Tranexamic acid was inadvertently listed in the earlier version.)
