Pharmacy Quality Scheme
One of the main aims of the Pharmacy Quality Scheme (PQS) is to help reduce harm from medication. As part of the PQS, pharmacy teams are asked to complete the updated audit of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and gastro-protection. The updated audit tool for 2019-20 is given below.
Adverse effects of NSAIDs, including cyclo-oxygenase-2 selective inhibitors, are a frequent cause of hospital admissions and there is evidence that potential harm from taking NSAIDs can be reduced. The aim of this audit is to prevent patient harm by ensuring all older patients prescribed NSAIDs are co-prescribed a gastro-protective agent.
