This drop-in session will explore considerations when dealing with temperature excursions of medicines.
Why it’s important
Medicines should be stored in accordance with their labelled storage conditions. When temperature excursions occur it is important to make informed decisions to maintain patient safety while minimising unnecessary wastage.
This session will explore the impact of temperature on medicine stability and how careful interpretation of available information can support decision-making.
This session will help attendees by outlining:
- the impact of temperature on the stability and degradation of medicines
- sources of stability information and how to interpret them
- a structured approach to assessing and managing temperature excursions
Intended audience
The session is suitable for NHS colleagues working in:
- dispensaries
- stores and stock distribution services
- aseptic and radiopharmacy services
- clinical areas where medicines are stored
Speakers
The session will include a presentation and a Q&As session supported by members of the SPS team.
