Archived July 2017 -How to optimise the care of patients with dementia and BPSD

· Medicines Use and Safety Team

The “how to” guide has been written to help secondary care clinical pharmacists to support the reduction of inappropriate prescribing of antipsychotics for patients with (BPSD). It is a step-by-step practical guide for ward-based pharmacists to support effective and appropriate intervention for patients already prescribed antipsychotics for BPSD or for those in whom these drugs are being considered. Clinical team leaders may choose to use this guide as a stand alone resource for their Band 6 & Band 7 pharmacists, or provide in-house training to support local action which may include the use of the guide.
