OnlineAbout the event
The NHS Patient Safety Strategy, published in July 2019, describes how the NHS will continually improve patient safety, building on the foundations of a safer culture and systems. Within the strategy, the Medicines Safety Improvement Programme has set out their initial set of priority projects, which include improving medicines administration safety in care homes.
What was covered
In this webinar, we heard an overview of the NHS Patient Safety Strategy, what it means for medication safety in 2020 and beyond, and specifically, the Patient Safety Collaborative network led project on improving medicines administration safety in care homes.
Research shows that care homes have the highest error rate per patient, leading to a disproportionately high overall number of errors.
The NHS Long Term Plan’s vision for more integrated care wrapped around the needs of patients and service users rather than the needs of organisations, is bringing about collaboration between organisations. This webinar highlighted the Patient Safety Collaboratives’ principles of quality improvement methodologies to redesign models of care and encouraged attendees to work with their respective AHSNs.
