About the Event

Two consultant pharmacists outlined the importance of medication reviews in falls and falls-risk patients, using case studies to illustrate how to undertake these using available guidance and resources.

Why it’s important

Falls are common events in older people and can cause injury, pain, distress, loss of confidence, loss of independence and increase mortality. Around 1 in 3 adults over 65 and half of people over 80 years old will have at least one fall a year. As well as the human cost, falls are estimated to cost the NHS more than £2.3 billion per year. Medicines are a common precipitating or contributory factor to falls and medication review can reduce the risk of falls.
