ARCHIVED AUGUST 2018. Safe use of insulin in primary care: Collaborative baseline audit of insulin administration and documentation by community nurse teams

· Medicines Use and Safety Team

This audit of insulin administration and documentation was conducted in 19 NHS Provider Trusts by community nurse teams at the end of 2010. 622 patients were reported requiring insulin administration by community nurses. Comparisons of 14 trusts reporting at least 20 patients demonstrated significant variation in many aspects of practice and insulin use. The data can be used to benchmark local activity and to drive both safety and cost improvements.

A collaborative audit of insulin use and safety in NHS Trusts is available here .
