Safety in Lactation: Antigiardial drugs

Mepacrine can either be used short-term for giardiasis infections or long-term for discoid lupus erythematosus. There is no information regarding its use during breastfeeding. Suitable alternatives will depend on the clinical indication.
Metronidazole is drug of choice, with tinidazole as an alternative, for Giardia lamblia infection.
