Safety in Lactation: Antithyroid drugs

For use of carbimazole or propylthiouracil, monitoring the infant’s thyroid function should be considered, especially in newborn infants, although no cases of thyroid function alteration have been reported.
It is advisable to avoid the iodine/potassium iodide solution used for thyrotoxicosis due to the significant risk of hypothyroidism in the infant.
