There is no published evidence for the antivirals used for cytomegalovirus infection during breastfeeding. These agents are extremely toxic, therefore their use during breastfeeding is not recommended. In addition, cytomegalovirus infection often occurs as a result of HIV or AIDS, which is also a contra-indication to breastfeeding.
