Safety in Lactation: Non-opioid analgesics and compound analgesic preparations

Paracetamol is the simple analgesic of choice in breastfeeding mothers.
Choice of an alternative will depend on level of analgesia required. Paracetamol should be adequate for most cases of mild-moderate pain and should be used first-line.
There is a theoretical risk of an association of Reye’s syndrome with aspirin, possibly even at low doses, especially in children with a viral infection or fever.
