Paracetamol is the simple analgesic of choice in breastfeeding mothers.
Choice of an alternative will depend on level of analgesia required. Paracetamol should be adequate for most cases of mild-moderate pain and should be used first-line.
There is a theoretical risk of an association of Reye’s syndrome with aspirin, possibly even at low doses, especially in children with a viral infection or fever.
