Safety in Lactation: Subfoveal choroidal neovascularisation

VEGF inhibitors (aflibercept, pegatanib and ranibizumab) and verteporfin are used for age-related macular degeneration. Orciplasmin is indicated for vitreomacular traction.
VEGF inhibitors and orciplasmin are administered by intravitreal injection. They are also large molecules with a high molecular weight. These factors will result in low plasma levels with negligible breast milk excretion, and therefore they will pose negligible risk to a breastfed infant.
Verteporfin is administered by IV injection.
