Both manufacturers (Wockhardt and Accord) of diamorphine 5mg and 10mg injection are experiencing supply difficulties and availability of these products is likely to remain unpredictable for the foreseeable future. The 30mg, 100mg, and 500mg strengths are available; however, manufacturers are unable to support an increase in demand on these strengths. Primary and secondary care may have to prepare for a complete out of stock of diamorphine 5mg and 10mg injection. This memo provides advice on the use of morphine instead of diamorphine.
