Summary of NICE guidance for Hyperphosphataemia in CKD / Urinary incontinence

Since this edition of NICE Bites was published, NICE has indicated it is updating its recommendations on the cost-effectiveness of phosphate binders in this CKD guideline. Please go to NICE for details and to check for any further updates to this guideline.

NICE Bites is a monthly bulletin which summarises key prescribing points from NICE guidance. NICE Bites No 51, April 2013 includes two topics:

  • Hyperphosphataemia in chronic kidney disease (NICE CG157). Sections covered include; diet, phosphate binders, prescribing and review.
  • Urinary incontinence in neurological disease (NICE CG148). Sections covered include; assessment, behavioural treatment, pharmacological treatment (antimuscarinics, botulinum toxin type A), monitoring, treatment for stress incontinence, to improve bladder emptying, to prevent urinary tract infection, and potential complications.
