This page provides a clear process to help colleagues consider when a PGD is required.

More information

The attached ‘To PGD or not to PGD’ decision support tool guides users through a flow chart and helps them consider whether a PGD is legal and/or appropriate.

The aim of this tool is to ensure that patients receive safe and appropriate care and timely access to medicines, in line with legislation and relevant national guidance – this includes the Human Medicines Regulations 2012 and NICE MPG2 PGDs 2017.  For background on the legal classification of medicines see: Medicine Matters: A guide to mechanisms for the prescribing supply and administration of medicines (in England)

Please note this tool is applicable to England only.
