The attached tool guides users through a flow chart and helps them consider whether a PGD is appropriate.

The aim of this tool is to ensure that patients receive safe and appropriate care and timely access to medicines, in line with legislation.

This tool was comprehensively reviewed in 2018 and updated to reflect changes in legislation and guidelines.  This includes the Human Medicines Regulations 2012 and NICE MPG2 PGDs 2017.  For background on the legal classification of medicines see: Medicine Matters: A guide to mechanisms for the prescribing supply and administration of medicines (in England)
