Limited evidence shows very small amounts pass into breast milk when given as a supplement.
Adequate thyroid hormone serum levels in the mother are required for normal lactation; thyroid hormones are a normal component of breast milk
Supplementation aims to replace normal thyroid hormone production, therefore supplementation does not confer additional risk compared to a euthyroid mother.
No adverse effects have been reported in breastfed infants.
