Agenda

Confirmed minutes

Following the Call to Action on the use of antipsychotic drugs for people with dementia http://www.institute.nhs.uk/qipp/calls_to_action/Dementia_and_antipsychotic_drugs.html, this meeting focussed on support for generalist secondary care pharmacists with implementation of national guidance on appropriate management of patients with behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD). Two presentations were delivered: The first from the NHS London team giving background, context and implementation suggestions for pharmacists and the second from an mental health and older people expert pharmacist, giving details of therapeutic update and current options for treatment of BPSD. The workshop that followed included case studies to look at practice based solutions which reduce inappropriate use of antipsychotics in patients with BPSD. This session had already been successfully run as part of the recent Older People Pharmacy Network meeting in November 2011.
