Improving Medicines Adherence for all patient groups

The theme for the meeting was Improving Medicines Adherence for all patient groups.  Even with the best clinical pharmacy services and the fastest supply service we are reliant on patients to take their medication to improve outcomes and reduce wastage.   There is more to adherence than counselling a patient!   The programme includes recent developments and examples from practice for both behavioural and physical support, including digital technology.  The meeting would be of interest to pharmacists from all sectors who are responsible for delivering or commissioning patient facing services.

We had excellent speakers who are leaders in their fields and included:

  • Dr Claire Easthall whose research interest at both UEA and Leeds focused on exploring the psychology of medicines adherence
  • Prof Nina Barnett from MUS who has identified both psychological and physical methods to support adherence.
  • Dr Katarzyna Stawarz who investigated medication adherence apps for her thesis
  • Dr Angie Herrmann, a Consultant Neurosurgeon who is now a Health Coach with a particular interest in medication adherence
