NHS Bexley, Greenwich, Lewisham CCGs antimicrobial leads work with the microbiology consultants & antimicrobial pharmacists from Lewisham, and Greenwich NHS Hospital Trust, and colleagues from Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust (our community provider), to develop shared local Primary Care Antimicrobial prescribing guidelines for use by GPs, Nurses and Pharmacists working within the community.
Collaboratively, we work to standardise treatments based on national recommendations (NICE & PHE) and local resistance patterns seen in the local populations. This is also educational as it supports newer prescribers to manage infections for their patients following a consistent approach aimed at keeping prescribing appropriate, only when necessary, and for the clinical benefit of the individual patients.
We have access to a free app (available on Smartphones or tablets) called “Microguide™”. The local LGT BLOG primary care antimicrobial guidelines are accessible on the app, plus clinicians can also see the local inpatient adult guidelines for Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Hospital Trust & the Darent Valley Hospital Adult antimicrobial guidelines as reference.
