Surrey CCGs AMR Network

Coordinators Sarah Watkin, Associate Director of Pharmaceutical Commissioning, NHS Surrey Downs Clinical Commissioning Group (Hosted Service), Karine Nash, Lead Practice Support Pharmacist, NHS Guildford and Waverley Clinical Commissioning Group

Medicine Management Teams across Surrey CCGs set up a collaborative working group for antimicrobial resistance in August 2018 in response to medicines optimisation priorities. Whilst there has been a lot of significant work done over the previous years to improve the use of antibiotics, the intention is to build on the current medicines management focused network to develop a whole health economy wide approach that will be needed to implement the latest UK AMR Action Plan.
Our priorities include:
• Optimising prescribing practice
• Professional education, training and public engagement
• Improving infection prevention and control practices
• Reducing variation in antibiotic prescribing

Current objectives of the network are:
• Implementing primary care antibiotic prescribing guidelines
• Participating in and supporting Antibiotics Awareness Week and Antibiotic Guardian campaigns
• Agreeing a local approach to monitoring secondary care CQUINs and primary care Quality Premiums
