Barry has worked in the NHS and academia for nearly three decades. A former clinical specialist and clinical senior lecturer, he has had the privilege of delivering both patient care and clinical education to stakeholders ranging from undergraduates to managers and consultants. Barry also trained as a teacher and a counsellor, using his training within and outside the profession. His publications list reflects his wide-ranging interests including quality improvement, polypharmacy and deprescribing, medication adherence, clinical education and professional development. Barry’s perspectives on medicines and the wider health context are also influenced by his significant and on-going experience as a part-time carer and a patient. Barry is dad to Alexander, who has Down’s Syndrome and complex medical needs. His interests here include supporting patients with learning disabilities and their carers; and the need for empathy in clinical consultations.
