About the event

This webinar was designed to support secondary care colleagues working with the purchasing, receipting, and management of medicines inventory.  This includes colleagues working in procurement, stores and distribution, dispensary, and technical services.

Continuing our successful series of webinars supporting operational pharmacy procurement teams, NHS Specialist Pharmacy Service (SPS) covered newly published material on the SPS website and practical skills including how to use the Rx Info system tools, to support you in identifying and monitoring inventory and ordering metrics.

Why it’s important

Optimal management of inventory is essential for all hospital pharmacy departments in delivering patient care, whilst supporting the delivery of best value.

Inventory is often considered an asset in financial terms, but surplus medicines inventory can be a liability. On the webinar we covered some of the routines that trusts can apply to monitor and address slow moving stock.

What was covered

  • Principles and models to enhance the understanding of inventory management for pharmacy procurement.
  • How the Rx Info Exend spend analytics system can support quality improvement measures.
  • How to prepare for regional and national benchmarking of operational procurement metrics and indicators.
