Aseptic transfer processes using sporicides

Published Last updated See all updates

Use of sporicides is an essential step in ensuring effective decontamination of materials being transferred into pharmacy aseptic units

Use of sporicides

The requirement to use sporicides as part of the transfer disinfection process was introduced in 2015 by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) in their Guidance for Specials Manufacturers.

In response to this, the NHS Pharmaceutical Quality Assurance Committee produced practical advice for all pharmacy aseptic units, whether operating under Section 10 exemption or a Manufacturing Specials licence.

This document is currently being reviewed and will be replaced in 2026 by a new series of articles about transfer disinfection.
