This drop in session will explore governance of pharmacy aseptic services and common themes identified at audit.
Why it’s important
Pharmacy aseptic services make ready-to-administer injectable medicines to ensure safe and timely treatment for patients. A significant number of essential medicines, for example chemotherapy, parenteral nutrition, radiopharmaceuticals and Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs), are not available in a ready-to-administer form, so require aseptic manipulation.
However, aseptic manipulation is a high-risk method of medicine preparation. The consequence of errors or contamination can be severe when medicines are administered by injectable routes.
This session will explore:
- the importance of governance arrangements
- monitoring the state of control of the service
- themes from aseptic assurance audits
Intended audience
The session is suitable for NHS:
- Chief Pharmacists
- Accountable and Authorised People
- aseptic services and radiopharmacy teams
