About the event

This drop-in session was developed in light of the updates to the clinical trials regulation affecting NHS pharmacy services. The MHRA clinical trials hub provides further information and guidance.

Why it’s important

Understanding and implementing the updated clinical trials regulation is essential to strengthen patient safety and accelerate trial set-up and approval, whilst ensuring regulatory compliance. Pharmacy teams are instrumental in supporting these aims.

This session helped attendees understand:

  • how to prepare for the updated clinical trials regulation that comes into force on 28 April 2026
  • the practical impact of the new regulation in pharmacy

Intended audience

The session was suitable for NHS:

  • pharmacy clinical trials teams
  • aseptic services and radiopharmacy services teams
  • chief pharmacists, R&D managers

Anne Black, Regional Quality Assurance Pharmacist (North East & Yorkshire). Anne is a Qualified Person for IMPs and chairs the Pan UK Pharmacy Working Group for ATMPs.

Non-SPS speakers

Dr Beatriz Duran Head of Pharmacy Clinical Trials and ATMPs at Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Anne and Beatriz sit on the National Pharmacy Clinical Trials Advisory Group and the National Institute for Health and Care Research Pharmacy Working Group.
