Background

Many effervescent and soluble painkillers and some cold and flu preparations contain significant amounts of sodium. The amount of sodium in non-soluble analgesics is insignificant. Orodispersible preparations do not contain significant amounts of sodium.

The attached list provides details of the sodium content of preparations used for the management of cold, flu and pain. It lists sodium content at both individual dose and maximum dose levels, along with associated limitations of the list. It can be used to help find similar formulations with lower sodium content.
